History

J. Payen and Co. started between 1890 and 1895 in Lyon, France, a company for the production of washers. In 1907 they opened a branch in London, UK. After WWI cylinder head gasket manufacture was developed and the business grew during the 1930s to become a major supplier to the automotive industry. Federal-Mogul purchased Payen in 1998, eventually becoming part of DRiV.

Sealing products

Sealing components are critical to the overall performance and reliability of automotive engines. As the requirements in the repair environment differ from the OE build line, Payen provides suitable technologies to ensure a successful aftermarket repair.

Gaskets

Depending on the application requirements, the primary function of a gasket is to seal gas and fluids and to also ensure the correct distribution of the clamp load. Some gaskets, such as cylinder head gaskets are designed to achieve a precise compressed thickness when fitted and can additionally manage the coolant flow between the head and block to help optimise the engine cooling system. From the top to the bottom of the engine, Payen has the correct design solution.

Features

Our unique CORIUSIM™ and CORIUSEAL™ gaskets perfectly demonstrate our understanding of what professionals are looking for in an aftermarket product. This range of green gaskets delivers excellent micro-sealability for optimum performance.

CORIUSEAL™ uses MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) technology to provide a durable and efficient sealing solution that is vital to the performance of today’s high output and lighter weight engines.

  • Stopper design selected to meet each application’s requirements
  • High-performance engineered elastomer
  • Optimum sealing performance
  • Conforms to most surface finishes on rebuilt engines
  • Improved anti-friction properties for reduced gasket fretting
  • Enhanced initial gas sealing on start-up

CORIUSIM™ uses premium fibre materials suitable for sealing older engines. These technologies are tailored for the repair environment and help to achieve a perfect seal.

  • Optimum sealing on rough surfaces
  • Ready to conform to head and block surfaces
  • Increased micro-sealability through the use of silicone surface coatings
  • Superior performance and durability
  • No use of organic solvents
  • Helps minimize bore distortion to reduce oil consumption and optimize piston ring performance

STEEL ELASTOMER is commonly used for heavy-duty diesel engines. The elastomeric materials are moulded to a steel carrier which ensures a long term and robust seal.

Quick look benefits – Engine seals

Benefit 1

  • Provides excellent resilience to aggressive oil conditions, especially with longer service intervals on modern engines

Benefit 2

  • Depending on application requirements, many oil seals incorporate a dust lip to prevent dirt ingress to prolong the life of the seal

Benefit 3

  • Expert tip: For PTFE seals: Do NOT lubricate the sealing lip. Allow 4 hours for the seal to conform to the shaft
